by Mohimenul | Last Updated December 19, 2020

Diamond rings give off elegance and class. There are certain things to remember when wearing them so that they can become the center of attention. Be it a wedding ring or just an ordinary one, they need to be worn in style so they complement your overall appearance.

Here are a few things to remember while wearing a diamond ring:

Decide Which Finger to Put It On

There is no hard-and-fast rule regarding selecting the finger for a diamond ring. Some people stack the diamond rings on only one finger. It can be a good way to draw attention, but spreading the rings across the fingers gives a more elegant look.

However, if you prefer the stacked look, wear the rings on the index and ring finger. Leave the middle finger simple. That is a popular choice among people who like to stack the rings on a few fingers.

If the ring does not signify any commitment, wear it on the right hand on any finger. Many people wear diamond rings as a symbol of celebration or success. Such rings also go on the right hand.

Engagement and Wedding Ring

The engagement and wedding rings go on the left hand. Usually, the engagement ring is worn on the left ring finger and then the wedding ring is added below that. If you are wearing both engagement and wedding rings, wear the wedding ring first and then slide your engagement ring.

If you are to wear a promise ring, you can wear it on your left ring finger until you get engaged. After the engagement, you can put it on the right ring finger.

With Other Jewelry

You can wear a diamond ring with other jewelry. Some people prefer to wear the same metal even if the gems are different. If you have such inclinations, you can wear all white gold or all platinum. You can also mix up the metals like platinum with silver. There are no prescribed rules when it comes to wearing jewelry. You just need to pick up a style that suits you.

Even if you are mixing up the metals, the settings should match. Also, do not wear fancy rings on the hand with the diamond ring, especially if the diamond is large-sized. It should be prominent. Moreover, if the diamond’s cut should match the cut of gemstones in other jewelry items.

Be Mindful of the Colors

Ensure that the colors of the other jewelry items like necklace go with that of your diamond ring. If you are wearing more than one ring, a contrast of colors looks elegant.

For instance, if you are wearing the silver diamond ring, you can wear the other one in rose gold. If you are wearing colored diamonds, you have a variety of hues to pick from in regard with the other jewelry pieces.

Consider Your Hand’s Shape

The shape of your hands and fingers also influence how a certain ring style and shape looks. If you have long and slender fingers, cushion, oval, square, and emerald shapes will suit you well. If you have short fingers, pear and marquise shapes will do. Whereas, the round shape goes well with all hand shapes.

How to take care of a diamond ring

Diamonds are one of the hardest and durable materials in the world. Still, they can be damaged and affected. They get chipped when under pressure or being handled roughly. Here is how you can take care of your diamond rings:

  •  Do not store your diamond ring with other jewelry pieces, as it can get scratches. Use a separate compartment or a fabric-lined case to store diamond jewelry.
  • Regularly check the diamonds and take them to a professional immediately in case of their loosening or any damage.
  • If you wear the ring in routine, it is exposed to skin oils, creams, and household chemicals every day. This exposure leads to buildup that dampens the diamond’s sparkle and brilliance. Soak your ring in warm water containing a few drops of ammonia. Scrub gently with a soft toothbrush. Then rinse and dry.
  • Take off the ring when you are doing rough work like cleaning or carrying weight. Ensure that the ring is steer clear of the chlorine bleach.
